Non-Immigrant Visa Section
Visa Application Process
All individuals applying for nonimmigrant visas at the U.S. Embassy in Vienna are required to apply in person at the Consular Section located at Parkring 12a, 1010 Vienna. Exceptions to this rule are applicants for most “A” and “G” visas: please see detailed information available at Diplomatic and Official Visas.
Please note: on Tuesday, May 3, and Wednesday, June 15, 2016 there will be no "diplomatic/official hour."
All applicants must schedule an appointment for a visa interview, following the five steps outlined below. An officer of the Consular Section will determine each applicant’s visa eligibility during an interview.
We encourage all applicants to apply early, as there can be a wait time for a visa appointment during peak times of the year. Some cases require additional administrative processing that the Consulate is not able to waive. Applying two weeks before the intended travel date is generally sufficient to complete all necessary processing, but complicated cases can take significantly longer.
Emergency Appointments: Please note there is an option to schedule an emergency appointment through the regular visa appointment system. However, you must first schedule a regular appointment before you can request an emergency one.
Current wait times for a visa appointment and processing at the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Vienna are available at Visa Wait Time section of travel.state.gov.
There are five steps to apply for a visa:
1. Fill out the application and upload a photo
2. Pay application fee
3. Make appointment for interview
4. Gather supporting documents
5. Attend interview
For your review, we have provided a final Interview Checklist.
