Intense Interest and High Expectations Greet the New Administration
The day after President Obama’s inauguration, noted political scientist, best-selling author ("The Road to the White House") and Georgetown University professor Stephen Wayne gave his preview of the first 100 days of the new administration. A standing room only crowd of political experts, academics, journalists, students and teachers filled the Amerika Haus for the event. Prof. Wayne opined that domestic issues -- especially the economic crisis -- will dominate President Obama's first 100 days. The transatlantic relationship, while important to the President, will not be addressed in the immediate future. The ensuing Q & A underscored the Austrian public's intense interest in and high expectations for the new president. On January 22, Prof. Wayne discussed the new administration's policy priorities with young Austrian diplomats at a roundtable at Amerika Haus.
