About Us

Economic/Political Section

The combined Economic-Political Section is responsible for the day-to-day conduct of bilateral relations with the Austrian government on issues pertaining to political and economic policy matters. We advocate support for U.S. positions on a wide range of issues. We prepare analyses and reports on political and economic developments of significance to the United States, including domestic developments in Austria and Austria's positions on international issues.

The Economic-Political Section works closely with the State Department, mainly via the Bureau for European and Eurasian Affairs in Washington. We also work closely with our Missions to the UN and OSCE in Vienna to coordinate bilateral aspects of issues they deal with. We are the Embassy's main contact with Austria's five political parties, parliament, local government offices and non-governmental organizations with interest in economic and political affairs.

If you need help with reference and research questions, please contact the American Reference Center of the U.S. Embassy.
